Welcome, to the Ukrainian Historical Society
We invite you to browse our website, and join us in preserving our cultural heritage. Founded in 2004, the Ukrainian Historical Society’s aim is to become a national repository for the Ukrainian community in North America, and provide historical information to the public at-large. One of our strategic goals is to engage and educate all sectors of the Ukrainian community about the importance of preserving its rich and vibrant history, and to offer quality programs and services that inform all those interested in the history of the Ukrainian immigration.
The preservation of the past and present is largely dependant on each member of the community. Much of our early immigration history has been lost to preservation and restoration issues, lack of adequate facilities, and indifference to its fate. Going forward, the goal of the Ukrainian Historical Society is to engage the public by giving them the necessary tools, to become aware of the things they can do, to help recover and preserve much of the history that has been lost, or forgotten. As a result, it will give all of us a stronger sense of identity and accomplishment, and provide future generations with an invaluable resource for continued research.
The Ukrainian Historical Society relies on individual support to carry out its mission. Membership includes subscription to our semi-annual newsletter, discounts on books, participatory programs and sponsored events. Becoming a member also helps to support such important undertaking as the Oral History Program, which teaches others how to record their personal stories, so that they can leave a verbal legacy for future generations to study and enjoy.
We invite you to share in the excitement of history-past and unfolding-by becoming a member of the Ukrainian Historical Society.
As we continue to grow and develop, we welcome your comments and suggestions.
