About The Ukrainian Historical Society
The Ukrainian Historical Society (UHS), is a non-profit educational and research institution, recognized by the IRS under section 501 (c)(3), whose primary purpose is to document, interpret, and communicate to a diverse audience, the activities and achievements of Ukrainians in North America and around the world. With education as our primary focus, the UHS sponsors and conducts public lectures, seminars, and creative workshops. As a research center, the UHS maintains a library and archives. In tandem, these programs and services bring forth innovative displays, on-line resources, and participatory programs that make Ukrainian history relevant to its members and friends, and enhance the spirit of community inside the society, through teamwork and ongoing dialog. Our objective is to remain a valuable resource for the public, and a valuable foundation for historical scholarship.
Our Mission
Collect, preserve, and interpret the rich and vibrant history of Ukraine, and its people throughout the world.
Serve as a national repository for personal papers, family histories, organizational and business records, and related cultural artifacts.
Facilitate and encourage historical inquiry.
Provide educational programs that engage the public and make history accessible and meaningful.
The Society is committed to documenting the changing nature and experiences of the Ukrainian people throughout North America. In addition, to recognize those individuals that have made significant contributions in such areas as agriculture, education, art, literature, science, business, government, sports, religion, and the performing arts.
Scope of Work
The UHS collects and preserves printed materials such as journals, genealogies, directories, pamphlets, posters, diaries, letters, service records, charts, maps, photographs, drawings, books, recordings, awards, philatelic and numismatic material, audio recordings, microfilm, CD’s, film and video. The society will disseminate historical information and arouse interest in the past by publishing historical material, and addressing historical issues through public lectures, papers, exhibits, and discussion groups.
