Archives and Library
Collection Development Policy
The mission of the Ukrainian Historical Society (UHS) is to collect, preserve, and interpret the rich and vibrant history of Ukraine and its people. With this goal in mind, we actively seek primary and secondary sources of information relating to settlement history, notable Ukrainian personalities, and organizational histories, which will enhance our present collection, and strengthen existing collections. Acquisitions are through charitable donations and approved by our curator.
Archive and Library
We welcome donations of personal property such as manuscripts, works of art, rare books, and cultural artifacts. Items must enhance our present holdings, and be of historical importance to the society.
Among the types of materials in personal and family papers of interest to researchers are:
Personal letters, memoirs, journals, diaries, scrapbooks, photo albums, professional papers, genealogical information, curriculum vitae, business records, legal documents, photographs, film, negatives, videos, compact discs, and audio tapes.
Book Donations
Do you have new books or gently used books that you would like to donate to the UHS Library?
Regardless of language, we are currently seeking books on such topics as:
Ukrainian fine art and design, immigration history, human rights, folk-art, Ukrainian literature, poetry, mining history, DP camp history, gender studies, folklore and legends, religious studies (all denominations), political science, local history, military history, rituals and festivals, medicine, music, and entertainment. We also welcome individual diaries, children’s books, biographies, essays, research papers, manuscripts, and reference material to include dictionaries, manuals, encyclopedias, and government publications and proclamations.
Helping to build our library will provide the next generation with invaluable reference material about our past and present, provide the necessary tools for teaching, and become an important resource for future research.
For more information about donating your books, please contact us at archives@uhsoc.org.
